Financial Challenges
Not only is it important to understand the financial commitment of adoption, but you must also ensure that your family has the financial security to support a new addition to your household. Make sure that you can afford doctor’s visits for the child, baby formula, diapers, and other essentials. Your finances will be discussed during your home study and background check through St. Elizabeth Foundation.
Legal & Technical Hurdles
At St. Elizabeth Foundation, we empower our birth mothers to choose the openness of their adoption. While your adoption may be closed, meaning that the mother has chosen to have no contact with their child, there is the chance for communication to be more open with the birth mother. If she chooses an open or semi-open adoption, this means that at least some level of future involvement will be part of the child’s life. St. Elizabeth Foundation can help you to navigate this communication process after the finalization of your adoption!
The Adoption Process
Adoption is not a fast process. Your adoption journey will include background checks, home studies, educational classes, filing paperwork, and more. This process may seem lengthy and demanding, but don’t lose sight of what the end of the process holds. Make sure to lean on your family, friends, and support system at St. Elizabeth Foundation as you make your way through the adoption process!
Becoming a Family
One of the most difficult emotional challenges for the adoptive family is reconciling the fact that your child is not biologically yours. While this does not make your child any less yours, adoptive parents may still experience a variety of emotions. At St. Elizabeth Foundation, we offer counseling services to help you through any emotional hurdles you face during your adoption process. And, we can help you learn how to navigate any questions your child may have regarding their birth family.
