It’s a pleasure to get to know you! We thank God for connecting our families and allowing us to share this moment of compassionate love and courage.

We empathize with all the emotions you are feeling. We encourage you to trust your heart and to know that even when life throws some tough situations at you, God’s intention is for you to have a good and prosperous life (Jeremiah 29:11). Pursue Him and this promise. If you choose us, we assure you that we will provide the nurturing environment you desire for your little one, as we embrace him as part of our family. We will always honor his story and remind him of how deeply loved he is—not just by us, but by you as well. Thank you for sharing your hopes and dreams for this precious baby; he is in good hands!

Relationship/Journey

We are high school sweethearts from the Bahamas and have been together for almost 30 years. Back then, Lydia deemed herself as Rex’s “wing-woman”, trying to facilitate love connections for him. Well, it turns out that Rex was destined to be the love of her life, and he has been caring for Lydia and their girls ever since. We had three beautiful daughters; Huntah, Harper and Havyn and have been considering and praying to adopt for several years. We have been through some good and bad times but has had each other’s back throughout. We are kind of opposite in personalities, with Rex being quieter and chill, and Lydia more charismatic. What you will quickly find out about us, is that we are best friends, and as believers, we have committed our lives and our love life to God!

Why Adoption?

We are so excited to open our home and hearts to welcome a little boy into our lives. We appreciate that, just as God has adopted us into His family as His sons and daughters, we too can expand ours through adoption. I did not grow up with my biological parents, and Rex grew up being raised by a single mom. This allowed us to appreciate that love can be shared through different streams and result most beautifully. Adoption has been a topic on our hearts for several years, and we are grateful that God has gifted us with this opportunity to take this step. We recognize the important role birth parents play and know that releasing your child to another family takes courage, faith, and a great deal of love.

Home

We live in a friendly, rural town called Lovettsville, right next to the mountains. Just as the name suggests, the neighbors are quite lovely, and the kids are always roaming from door to door. Our house, a two-story colonial-style home, is the meeting place for the kids to play games. We have about 7.5 acres of grassland and is a spot where the kids sled in the wintertime or the deer, foxes, groundhogs, or rabbits wander. Inside, you will smell baked goods, BBQ, or island food cooking and hear cringy singing or chattering all day long.

Travel

We love visiting new places around the world; exploring the history of different cities, experiencing the food from various countries, or simply enjoying the unique scenes that nature offers. Yearly, we take a family cruise with Rex’s family in the summer, and travel to spend Christmas with Lydia’s family in Turks & Caicos. Throughout the year, we would drive to different states to see famous landmarks or to just to grab some crave-worthy foods. Then there’s Disney World, a place we try to visit as often as we can. We are sure that Mickey knows our names by now.

Hobbies

Besides travelling, we really enjoy serving at church together, teaching children from Pre-K to 3rd grade about the love of Jesus. Almost every weekend, we venture out to a nearby farm to enjoy ice cream or head to the theatre to catch a film. Rex loves zooming on his jet-ski, riding his motorcycle, fishing or grilling some yummy BBQ. Lydia loves puzzles and watching old movies. While the girls love playing lacrosse, playing their instruments or watching k-dramas. Also, we never miss an opportunity to visit different local zoos, we love seeing all the animals up close. Still, we find that we are most happy hanging at home playing games, binge-watching movies, baking treats together or playing with the dogs in the backyard.

Pets

We share our home with their two red Border Collies, Hiro Hanz and Hercules Huck. Hiro is a city dog, stuck in a country dog’s life. He seriously believes that everyone’s attention should always be on him. Hercules is a wild, fun-loving ball of energy. Hercules is looking forward to having a little one around to match his energy, and Hiro would enjoy having another person just to adore him. These boys literally run in the backyard for the entire day, taking turns herding each other just for fun. As soon as the car door opens, they would leap inside, hoping to go on another ride. They both love children and have become favored pets of the kids in the neighborhood. Hiro loves striking poses for pets, while Hercules would jump up over and over again to receive hugs. If you ask, who’s a good boy, they can both raise their paws and say that they are.

School & Work

Rex was super inquisitive as a kid, always breaking apart radios and gadgets, trying to figure out how to piece them together again. This began his intrigue with devices and love for computers. Rex began as a police officer in the Royal Bahamas Police Force and eventually joined the Forensic Lab, starting up a Computer Forensics Unit in the Bahamas. During his tenure at the forensic lab, he was asked to come back to Florida to take a role at the same University where he got his bachelors degree in Computer Science. He transitioned to a few fortune 500 companies and since obtaining his Masters in Data Analytics and an MBA from UVA, he is leading a Machine Learning team as an Executive Director at JPMorgan Chase. Lydia started working at Dept. of Statistics from age 17 and transferred to the Bahamas Consulate in Miami Florida about 10 year later. She later transitioned to the Bahamas Embassy Annex in Washington DC as an Accounts Officer/Consular Attache’. Then, after obtaining her BBA & Masters degree in Accounting, she started her own Accounting business Minnis & Associates. Lydia is also the Financial Director for a non-profit organization called Life Line Inc., a pregnancy help center.

Our Family

For us, family takes on a whole new meaning. Besides coming from large families, we are also connected to several communities. Lydia’s grandfather alone has eighteen children, over one hundred grandchildren, and tens of great-grandchildren. Between Rex and Lydia, they have 15 siblings, and love spending time with them, laughing and enjoying some tasty soul food during the holidays. Besides our immediate and extended families, we are close with various groups at our church, work, and our daughters’ schools. What warms our hearts is to know that everyone we know, relatives, persons at church, at school, and in our neighborhood, is eagerly awaiting the arrival of this little one. People have been praying for him and planning for him without knowing when he will arrive. He will have aunties, uncles, and lots of cousins to fuss over who will be holding him.

Family Traditions & Holidays

If you haven’t figured it by now, we are foodies. This means that our traditions are centered around having family feasts. We celebrate Christmas by decorating the house and tree, attending a Christmas service at church and enjoying Christmas dinner with Honey Baked Ham, sides and egg nogg. We host Thanksgiving dinner, inviting our family and friends over, where Rex’s fried Turkey, Steph’s corn pudding and Lydia’s mac& cheese, and sweet potato casserole are a hit. At Easter time, we donate eggs for the egg hunt for the little kids and enjoy hot cross buns, and fried fish on Good Friday. One thing that we do for everyone’s birthday, is the “birthday table”, where each person presents a gift whether bought or homemade to our birthday honoree.
