Relationship/Journey
We met while we were in college at MC (Mississippi College). After we graduated college and began graduate school, our family grew when our son was born. After Alex finished P.A. school, our daughter was born, and we are excited to grow our family by adoption.
Why Adoption?
Chris and I have talked about adoption since we were dating. It's always been something that has been on our heart from the beginning, even before having our own children. Then when we got married, I found out I had endometriosis and ended up having a hysterectomy at 27 years old, unable to have any more children, so we began talking more seriously about adopting. Since that time, we have thought even more about how adoption is such a picture of what God has done for us as His children, which makes it even more special. We have even included our kids in many discussions, and they are so excited to have a baby in our home.
Home
When we first married, we lived in Baton Rouge, LA and moved to New Orleans for graduate school. We now live in Woodworth, LA, just outside of Alexandria. We purchased a house in a small neighborhood where several families with children live and our kids play with their friends in the neighborhood.
Travel
We enjoy traveling and have taken several trips with our children and our extended family. For our honeymoon, we went to Montego Bay, Jamaica. We will soon be taking a trip to Italy for a late celebration of our tenth anniversary, during which we will visit Rome, Florence, and Venice. We have taken trips to Montana, Utah, and Disney World with Chris's family. With Alex's family we have taken trips to Destin, Florida and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where Alex's parents own a cabin.
Hobbies
Our family loves sports, both watching sports and playing them together. We watch LSU football together, often with friends and sometimes attending a few games per year together. We also watch LSU women's basketball and have attended a few games, as well as the Indiana Fever and have travelled to Dallas to watch one of their games. Beyond sports, we love to play board games and watch old movies (Alex's realm of expertise) together.
Pets
We have one pet, a mixed breed dog named Ella. Ella is 11 years old and was adopted from a rescue shelter in Baton Rouge when she was a year and a half old. Ella is a very well behaved dog who likes to chew on bones, eat anything that falls off of the kids' plates, sunbathe in the yard, take walks, and sleep in her dog bed or on the couch with the family.
School & Work
We met while attending Mississippi College. Chris graduated from MC and began graduate studies at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Alex transferred to LSU where she then graduated, then attended graduate school at LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. After graduation Alex began work as a Physician Assistant, and Chris works as a Media/Lighting Technician at a church in Alexandria.
Alex's Extended Family
I have one younger brother who is married and has two boys, ages 2 and 10 months. My parents live in Gonzales, Louisiana and have been married 34 years. My dad is a former electrical engineer who currently invests in real estate and manages those properties. My mom is a former teacher who taught elementary school for many years and currently teaches at a mother's day out program. They love their four grandkids and are excited about both our growing family and my brother's growing family.
Chris's Extended Family
I have one older sister who is recently re-married and has one son of her own and her husband has 2 sons. My parents live in Woodworth, Louisiana a few miles away from us and have been married 38 years. My dad formerly co-owned a chain of grocery stores in Louisiana and Mississippi with his dad and two of his brothers, they sold their company about two years ago so he is now retired. My mom is a former nurse and school secretary who is also retired. They love to spend time with their grandkids swimming in their pool in the summers.
Family Traditions & Holidays
We have several traditions around Christmas time, such as Alex baking Christmas cookies of various kinds to give to friends and family, watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate, driving around to look at lights, and reading about the birth of Jesus. Family gatherings for holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter are special for us, we love to watch the kids spend time with their cousins and spend quality time with our families.
